Have you ever been jealous of a dog’s luscious locks? We certainly have and it’s pretty certain that if that’s the case then we’re looking at a silky coated superstar. This can include dog breeds such as Cocker Spaniels, Silky Terriers and possibly Maltipoos as well.

These usually have straight or slightly wavy hair that is fine and soft (and utterly enviable) and they are often single coated. This type of coat sheds seasonally twice a year and needs daily brushing during these periods, in between this our top tips for keeping your silky coated pup looking perfect are:

BRUSHING: It’s easy for a silky coat to become tangled so keep on top of your brushing routine. For shorter silky coats use a bristle brush and for longer a slicer brush.

WASHING: Regular bathing with a de-greasing, conditioning or shin enhancing shampoo

DRYING: Use a hair dryer rather than air drying for this coat type

It’s important that you give these types of coat a fair amount of care to help keep them at their best including regular brushing (daily in some cases) this will remove any dead hair and will stop the coat from becoming matted/tangled.

Much like other coat types, if you silky haired pooch is white or lighter coloured they can still be highly prone to tear stains and that’s where Happy Tears can help.

In order to get the best results from the Happy Tears treatment you will need to use a comb such as the Tedster Mini Comb in order to remove any debris or tangles that have built up around the eye, allowing the solution and powder to really do their work.

As ever, if you have any questions about how to apply Happy Tears or other staining problems that your dog has, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, we’d be happy to help.
