Tear Stain Powder Ingredients:

Boric crystals, Goldenseal, Echinacea, Eyebright

Tear Stain Solution Ingredients:

Water, Witch Hazel, Colloidal Silver

Boric Acid

  • A natural cleanser and antibacterial that is used in well-established eye treatments to help relieve irritation and discomfort. In powder form it is also a pharmaceutical-grade drying agent, which keeps the affected area dry.

Goldenseal

  • (Hydrastis canadensis) – also called orangeroot or yellow puccoon, is a perennial herb in the buttercup family, it mimics the properties of a natural antibiotic to help remove the bacteria causing tear staining.

Echinacea

  • Similar to Goldenseal, Echinacea is also an anti-inflammatory and acts as a natural antibiotic, helping clear up any bacterial infections.

Eyebright

  • Eyebright (Euphrasia) has been used in traditional herbal medicine in Europe for centuries, particularly for minor eye ailments like redness and irritation. This herb has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and astringent properties and contains the substance Aucubin, which stimulates the production of proteins that are involved in the healing processes.

From one dog to ear to another, we are happy to share our secret.

The Secret

Tear stain removal success with Happy Tears® lies not just in the formulation but in the application process.

Happy Tears® results in happy dogs.

Everything we include has been tested with different animals during the research and development process to ensure the treatment works in the most effective way without any discomfort – no fur pulling, no left-over strands, fluff or fuss.

It cannot be emphasised enough that this treatment is successful only when used alongside good grooming practices such as removing debris from the stained area and keeping the fur dry at all times. If you do maintain these good habits in conjunction with our treatment and special bamboo brush and bamboo cleansing cloth, we guarantee you will see unrivalled results.
Mini Me Happy Tears Tear Stain Treatment Kit - Young Woofians

Premium dog grooming, backed by science.

Here at Young Woofians, we work hard to ensure the very best quality that your pet deserves. After a few equations and dog walks to clear our mind, we found the answer.

The Science

It’s simple science really.

The key to understanding dogs inside out

In dogs, red blood cells live for around 3 months after which they are broken down to be replaced with new red blood cells; this may sound alarming but it is normal. During this break down process the cells produce by-products called Porphyrins and these Porphyrins are molecules that contain iron produced during the red blood cell break down process. Blood iron is similar to the metal iron (the same atoms as the metal but blood iron is carried by two proteins) and all dogs have porphyrins in their tears, saliva and tinky winky but it appears that some have more than others and it’s these that create the staining on the fur when they react with the air.

*We always recommend that you speak with your vet to ensure there’s no serious underlying condition or infection. They’ll also check for blocked tear ducts and ensure the tearing is  not being exacerbated by allergies and that there’s no foreign bodies, scratches or other injuries that are causing excess tearing. Teething in puppies is a common cause in the younger of our furry friends, while Conjunctivitis and Glaucoma should also be ruled out before considering treatments.
